aw correction appliances are used during growth
to balance the development of the upper and lower jaws..
For a protruding lower jaw
(prognathism)
Face Mask
For a developed upper jaw
compared to the lower jaw
Headgear
For cases where growth stimulation
is needed for a retruded jaw
(underdeveloped jaw)
Functional Appliances
For cases with severe
overlapping of
permanent teeth
Secondary Orthodontics
If the following symptoms are present,
it is time to start orthodontics for our child.
When the upper teeth cover more than ¼ of the lower teeth
When there are gaps between crooked teeth
When the central lines of the upper and lower teeth are uneven
When the upper front teeth are protruded
When the lower teeth cover the upper teeth
When the lips cannot close, and food cannot be chewed properly
Crossbite
When crossbite occurs during growth, it inhibits the growth of the upper jaw,
leading to a concave facial profile. To correct the growth direction, the use of a palatal expander
and face mask is actively utilized to stimulate the growth of the upper jaw and maxillary bones (nose).
Correction of Prognathism Using a Face Mask
The case involved a 7-year-old boy whose mandible grew faster than the maxilla, resulting
in vertical mandibular growth inhibition. To stimulate the growth of the maxilla, a Face Mask
(which induces maxillary growth and provides space for the eruption of permanent teeth)
and a palatal expander were used. The patient’s active cooperation led to harmonious growth of the side profile.
Unilateral Crossbite
When crossbite occurs during growth, it inhibits the growth of the upper jaw, leading to a concave facial profile.
Using a palatal expander and face mask to adjust the growth direction,
we can induce the growth of the upper jaw and maxillary bones (nose).
Growth Stage Orthodontics Case Using Headgear
In the initial phase of orthodontics, we analyze the direction of jaw growth,
using maxillary expansion for transverse growth and headgear to inhibit forward
growth of the maxilla. After treatment, the appearance of the lower facial profile was harmonized,
and the maxillary molars moved to a more posterior and superior position.
Orthodontic Case Using Jaw Growth Stimulation
Diagnosing the growth and development of the upper and lower jaws showed excessive growth of the mandible.
The orthodontic treatment suppressed maxillary growth while stimulating forward and vertical growth of the mandible.
This approach helped to correct unbalanced jaw growth during the growth phase, resulting
in a harmonious facial appearance and improved occlusion, leading to a healthier oral environment and increased self-confidence.
